One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon othe beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4

BE PART OF MAKING A TANGIBLE STATEMENT TO THE JEWISH COMMUNITY

"WE WILL NEVER FORGET"
In 1999, the grand-daughter of a Holocaust survivor began a campaign to raise 6 million pennies to represent the 6 million Jewish souls (men, women and children) lost to us through the holocaust.  Her grand-father was one of the founders of the Virginia Holocaust Museum.

Over the last 12 years, schools and organizations have contributed to this campaign and have raised over 2,800,000 pennies.  This campaign was used to bring awareness and needed education regarding the atrocities which occurred in recent history in hopes of raising a generation that would not repeat the same evil - regardless of where injustice would raise it's ugly head.

In light of the acceleration of global events and the current climate in our nation towards Israel and the Jewish people, there is an urgency to make tangible statements to the Jewish community of our support.  It was in a similar climate during Nazi Germany that the church chose to remain silent and allowed anti-semitic remarks and attitudes to go unchallenged.

WHAT WE ARE ASKING:

We are asking families, congregations, and organizations across Virginia to join us in raising the remaining 3,200,000 pennies which will be presented to the Virginia Holocaust Museum during the High Holy Days in the Fall of 2012. Participants will be listed on a scroll which will be given at the time of the penny presentation.

We believe this is a simple, yet profound way to answer the plea by the Jewish community to "Never Forget".  We believe this simple act will make a statement that will be heard in both heaven and earth...WE WILL NEVER FORGET.

HOW TO DONATE PENNIES:

Come to ONE OF OUR FEATURED EVENTS and bring your pennies!  Three MILLION two hundred THOUSAND pennies is A LOT OF PENNIES.  So we are asking participants to go to the bank and exchange $5, $10, $50, $100 (whichever amount) for pennies. For example: $10 is 1,000 pennies, $50 is equal to 5000, $100.00 equals 10,000 pennies, etc.  Bring them to one of our events or collection sights (to be determined).

At home or in your congregation, place a water cooler jar in a central place.  Have family or congregants deposit pennies that will be donated to one of the special events or collection sites.
